Ergonomic Work Chairs
If you have a job where you sit at a desk for long amounts of time, you should make sure you are seated ergonomically. Ergonomic work chairs are one of the most important aspects of a healthy workstation. These chairs are designed to prevent common problems associated with poor posture when seated. Sitting at your computer desk in a non ergonomic chair may lead to carpal tunnel or repetitive stress injury in the hands and wrists as well as strain in the back and legs.
Ergonomics is defined as the practice of configuring the work area and maintaining your posture so that stress on your body is always at its minimum. Not only is this practice good for your body, it can be good for your productivity as well. When you are more comfortable and less fatigued naturally your productivity should increase. There are ergonomics chairs, desks, keyboards, mouse pads and more designed for this purpose. You can buy this type of equipment at office supply stores like Staples and Office Depot. If you prefer shopping at stores like Wal-Mart or Target you should find ergonomic chair choices there as well.
Searching for an ergonomic work chair in this day and age is easily done on the Internet. There are many online stores and even sites like Ebay where you can acquire office furniture and supplies for a bargain. Although shipping costs can be expensive for an item as large as a chair, many stores offer free shipping to customers who spend a certain dollar amount. When buying a new office chair it is likely you will reach that threshold. If not, there are probably some other supplies you could add to your order to get free shipping while stocking your office.
Even though ergonomic work chairs are very essential for proper posture, you will still need to do the right things to accentuate that proper posture as the ergonomically designed work chair will not do all of it for you. It is necessary to position yourself correctly and adjust your chair. Your feet should be flat on the floor, and your back should be straight. If you are unable to rest your feet on the floor use a footrest. Adjust the arm rests of the chair if you can so that the shoulders can stay in a relaxed position. If you are using a computer, the screen should be adjusted to your eye level. By following ergonomic guidelines like these, you can avoid work related strain and injury and make your workstation more comfortable.
